Our Spray Tan Solution & Ingredients
At Nikole Rose Studio, we use SKJ professional spray tan solutions, specifically SKJ 9 and SKJ 15, so we can match your glow to your skin tone, undertone, and the depth you want.
- SKJ 9 is a 9% DHA solution designed for a natural-looking tan that develops over time, with an 8-hour rinse and a cool violet undertone. It’s also described as lightweight and quick-drying, and the brand notes it’s fragrance-free and alcohol-free (plus free of parabens, phthalates, and formaldehyde).
- SKJ 15 is a deeper option at 15% DHA, commonly described as a cool olive base, often used as a semi-rapid tan depending on your schedule and desired depth.
Both solutions rely on DHA (dihydroxyacetone), the ingredient used in sunless tanning to create a bronzed look on the skin’s surface. The FDA notes DHA is approved for external application (which is why technique matters and why we guide application carefully)

Properly prepare for your Spray by Mae Airbrush Tan will have a huge impact on your results & experience with us.
If you’re planning a mani/pedi, be sure to get it before your spray tan. Just make sure to rinse off any lotions or oils they apply so your tan develops evenly.
For the best results, shave, wax, or pluck at least 24 hours before your spray tan. Doing it too close to your session can leave open pores, which may cause the tanning solution to settle unevenly.
For a smooth, even tan, exfoliate your skin 12-24 hours before your appointment using a loofah, dry brush, or exfoliating mitt. These tools help remove dead skin cells, creating the perfect base for your spray tan. Avoid harsh scrubs with oils, as they can leave a residue that affects your tan’s absorption.
For a long-lasting, even tan, keep your skin hydrated! Drink plenty of water and apply a lightweight, oil-free moisturizer at least an hour before your appointment. This helps your skin absorb the tanning solution evenly.
During your spray tan, you can wear a bathing suit, underwear, a bra—or go nude. Keep in mind that whatever you wear will create tan lines!

Glowing skin starts from within! Drinking plenty of water helps keep your skin hydrated, which means a longer-lasting, more even fade.
To maximize the longevity of your spray tan, ensure your skin remains well-hydrated.
For optimal results, use a moisturizer that is free from mineral oils and artificial fragrances.
Post-tan comfort is key! Opt for loose, dark-colored clothing and sandals or slides to avoid smudging your fresh glow.
